Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Lee Jaewoong

October 17, 2024  14:30  KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul, together with Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom Rt Hon. David Lammy MP, will hold the ninth ROK-UK Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue on Monday, October 21, during the latter’s visit to the ROK.

The upcoming Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue will mark the first of its kind since ROK-UK relations were upgraded to a Global Strategic Partnership during President Yoon Suk Yeol’s state visit to the UK in November 2023.

In the forthcoming meeting, the Foreign Minister and the Foreign Secretary will discuss ways to step up bilateral cooperation in various fields including diplomacy, security and economy with a focus on the main elements of the Downing Street Accord concluded during President Yoon’s state visit to the UK, as well as regional and global affairs.

Moving on, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul will attend the networking event for Korea’s next generation of leaders on Friday, October 18.

Around 100 young people have been invited to this first large-scale youth networking event to come since the inauguration of Foreign Minister Cho.

At the event, Foreign Minister Cho will deliver a message of encouragement to young people as well as the Foreign Ministry’s pledge for continued support for them.

During the event, the Foreign Ministry will also share the vision of the “Youth and Local Diplomacy Team,” a group under the Foreign Ministry launched in June this year, and present ways forward for the Foreign Ministry’s youth policy.
